Over $291 million of venture capital was invested in 26 U.S based companies during this reporting period. The average deal size was approximately $11.19 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period is down 20% from last weeks $362 million.
Geographically, California received more than 42% of the total venture capital invested this period. The largest venture financing in California this period was by HammerHead Systems for $25 million. HammerHead Systems is a privately owned provider of data communications equipment for carriers.
The Software sector raised the most venture capital this period with 33%. A total of 12 Software companies raised $97.18 million in venture financings. The largest financing in the Software sector was by ServGate Technologies, Inc. who is a provider of integrated, modular network security platforms for small and medium businesses and the distributed enterprise.
Companies raising their Series B round (second financing) of funding represented 36% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest deal in this category was led by TransMedics, Inc. who received an investment for $27.6 million. TransMedics, Inc. develops a portable system for preservation and transport of donated organs.
