Over $235 million of venture capital was invested in 21 U.S.-based companies during this reporting period. The average deal size was approximately $11.19 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period is down 44% from last week's $422 million.

Geographically, 8 California companies raised $100 million in venture financings. The largest venture financing in California this period was by Neophotonics Corporation for $40 million. Neophotonics Corporation is located in San Jose, CA and develops and manufactures advanced planar optical devices by monolithically integrating active and passive optical materials using the company's proprietary nanomaterials-based process solutions.

The Software sector raised 35% of the venture capital this period. 10 Software companies raised $75.1 million in venture financings. The largest venture financing in the Software sector this period was by two companies. Both Netscaler, Inc. and UPEK, Inc. raised $20 million in venture equity this period.
