Over $557 million of venture capital was invested in 36 U.S.-based companies during this reporting period. The average deal size was approximately $15.5 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period is up 21% from last week's $462 million.
Geographically, 16 California companies raised $224.3 million in venture financings. The largest venture financing in California this period was by Favrille, Inc. for $44 million. Favrille, Inc. is located in San Diego, CA and is involved in the research, development and commercialization of targeted immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer and other diseases of the immune system.
The Software sector raised 26% of the venture capital this period. 16 Software companies raised $142.7 million in venture financings. The largest venture financing in the Software sector this period was by 180Solutions, Inc. for $40 million. 180Solutions, Inc. which is a software company headquartered in Bellevue, WA and is a provider of Internet search marketing solutions and provides search assistant software that delivers consumers to highly targeted websites on behalf of advertisers when they are searching the Internet for products or services.
A first time for the year, companies raising their Series A rounds of funding represented 32% of the total venture capital deployed this period.
