Venture capital activity has increased by 7% from last periods performance of $220 million. $235 million in venture capital was invested in 28 companies during the period.

In addition, three companies began trading on Wall Street with over $279 million raised in equity through IPOs. The three IPO’s this reporting period are as follows:
1. MannKind Corporation for $87.5 million
2. Volterra Semiconductor for $36 million
3. EnerSys for $156.25 million

The Houses passage of HR 3574 may be blocked in the Senate.

CapitalHunter.com identified that $235 million of venture capital was invested in 28 U.S.-based companies during this week’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately $8.39 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period increased by 7% over last week’s $220 million.

What’s Hot: California, Software, and Series C.

Geographically, 8 California companies raised $98 million in venture financings. The largest venture financing in California this period was into Aruba Wireless Networks for $27 million. Aruba Wireless Networks is a San Jose based company markets and manufactures centralized 802.11 (Wi-Fi) security systems for enterprises and managed service providers.

The software sector raised a little over 38% of the venture capital this period. Fifteen software companies raised over $20 million in venture financing. The largest software financing was by Sorrent which creates and publishes connected interactive gaming software technology for wireless and Web-based Internet-capable devices.

Companies raising their Series C round of financing led this week’s venture capital activity. Series C companies represented 34% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest Series C financing was into Aruba Wireless Networks.
