This past week Capital Hunter identified a total of 86 funding events globally that merit attention. Of the 86 companies globally that we identified, 63 of the funding events were by U.S. companies. 36 U.S. based companies are privately held and 27 are publicly traded companies; moreover, 51 of them raised equity capital and 12 secured debt financing. EQUITY INVESTMENTS

Total equity capital raised by U.S. companies this week was $688 million. Below are straightforward graphs so that you can quickly see how the equity investments were distributed by Geography, Industry and Stage of Development:

GEOGRAPHY

A Washington DC company raised 21% of the total $688 million in equity raised in the United States this past week. XM Satellite Radio is a Washington DC based NASDAQ company traded under ticker symbol XMSR. The company is one of two FCC licensees to deliver satellite radio programming. XM inaugurated its coast-to-coast, digital-quality service with 101 channels of music, news, talk, sports, comedy and children's programming. The company has raised $150 million through a public offering of Class A Common Stock.

INDUSTRY

Software companies received 23% of the total $688 million in equity raised in the United States this period. The largest software deal reported this period was Kineto Wireless, Inc. a Milpitas, CA based early stage privately held company. Kineto Wireless, Inc. develops solutions enabling service providers to exploit the discontinuities resulting from the deployment of Wireless LAN technology. The company has raised $24 million in venture capital from Venrock Associates, 3i, Mitsui Company Venture Partners, SeaPoint Ventures, Storm Ventures, and Sutter Hill Ventures.

STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT

Later stage companies raised 33.8% of the equity this period. Therion Biologics, Corp. was one of the largest later stage deals reported this period. Therion Biologics is a Cambridge, MA based biotech company that develops therapeutic vaccines for cancer and preventive vaccines for AIDS. The company raised $39 million in a private equity financing from philanthropist investor Hans-Werner Hector and other investors SAP AG, Hambercht and Quist Funds, and SR One Limited.

VENTURE CAPITAL

Venture capitalists in the United States invested 143% more dollars this past week compared to the week before and funded 28 Companies for a total of $345 million.
