Venture capitalists invested approximately $274 million nationally this week. This is a decrease of 2% from the prior week. A total of 26 companies raised venture capital. The average deal size was approximately $10.54 million. The largest geographic recipient of venture capital was California based companies to the tune of $176.45 million. This represented 64.44% of total venture financing. The semiconductor sector received the biggest chunk of venture capital, totaling $92 million. Early stage companies received 61.1% of total venture capital to the tune of $167.3 million.
A total of 40 equity financings in the United States took place this past week and the dollar amounts increased this reporting period by 10% to $573 million, compared to last week's $521 million.
