Venture capitalists invested approximately $314 million nationally this week. This is an increase of 15% from the prior week. A total of 22 companies raised venture capital. The average deal size was approximately $14.27 million. The largest geographic recipient of venture capital was California based companies to the tune of $203.85 million. This represented 64.94% of total venture financing. The Medical Device sector received the biggest chunk of venture capital, totaling $89.5 million. Early stage companies received 54.83% of total venture capital to the tune of $172.1 million.

A total of 45 equity financings in the United States took place this past week and the dollar amounts remained flat this reporting period with $570 million being raised, compared to last week's $573 million.
