What’s Hot this reporting period are venture backed companies based in California operating in the Software industry and that have raised their Series C round of financing.

On Wall Street CapitalHunter.com identified the following IPO’s and Secondary Offerings:

1. Ormat Technologies had its initial public offering this week for $93.8 million and trades under the ticker ORA.
2. Nalco Holding had its initial public offering this week for $666.7 million and trades under the ticker NLC.
3. Bucyrus International raised additional capital through a secondary offering for $202.4 million and trades under the ticker BUCY.
4. OSI Pharmaceuticals raised additional capital through a secondary offering for $387 million and trades under the ticker OSIP.
5. Vornado Realty Trust raised additional capital through a secondary offering for $150 million and trades under the ticker VNO.

CapitalHunter.com was able to verify that $244 million of venture capital was invested in 28 U.S.-based companies during this week’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately $8.71 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period decreased by 36% from last week’s $380 million.
Geographically,17 California companies raised $170 million in venture financings. The largest private venture financing in California this period was into TradeBeam who raised $18.25 million. TradeBeam is a San Mateo based company that is a provider of a global trade management software and services providing a solution that streamlines global trading processes for enterprises and their partners.
The software sector raised 52% of the venture capital this period. Thirteen software companies raised $126.8 million in venture financing. TradeBeam was the largest financing in this sector.
Companies raising their Series C round of financing led this week’s venture capital activity. Series C financings represented 33% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest Series C financing was into Sonim Technologies. Sonim Technologies provides IP-based end-to-end Instant Communication solutions including voice messaging over wireless data networks worldwide; additionally, the Sonim client may be installed as an application on smart phones, wireless PDAs and landline PCs.
The three largest venture deals this period are as follows:
