What’s Hot this reporting period are venture backed companies based in New York operating in the Software industry and that have raised their Series A round of financing.

On Wall Street CapitalHunter.com identified the following IPO’s:

1. Coinmach Service Corp. had its initial public offering this week for $332 million and trades under the ticker DRY.
2. Monolithic Power Systems had its initial public offering this week for $46.8 million and trades under the ticker MPWR.
3. PortalPlayer had its initial public offering this week for $106.3 million and trades under the ticker PLAY.
4. Iowa Telecommunications Services had its initial public offering this week for $363.1 million and trades under the ticker IWA.
5. PRA International had its initial public offering this week for $114 million and trades under the ticker PRAI.
6. Specialty Underwriters Alliance had its initial public offering this week for $120.7 million and trades under the ticker SUAI.
7. China Netcom Group Corp. had its initial public offering this week for $47.1 million and trades under the ticker CN.
8. Inphonic had its initial public offering this week for $142.5 million and trades under the ticker INPC.
CapitalHunter.com was able to verify that $262 million of venture capital was invested in 24 U.S.-based companies during this week’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately $10.92 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period increased by 7% from last week’s $244 million.
Geographically,2 New York companies raised $68.6 million in venture financings. The largest private venture financing in New York this period was into JDS Pharmaceuticals who raised $62 million. JDS Pharmaceuticals is a New York City based company that is a specialty pharmaceutical company created to sell, market and develop proprietary and branded pharmaceutical products in niche therapeutic markets.
The software sector raised 52% of the venture capital this period. Sixteen software companies raised $137.6 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the software sector this period was into PlanView who raised $25 million. PlanView is a Austin, Texas based company that is a provider of IT governance solutions, provides enterprise application software that enables Global companies to more efficiently manage and govern their portfolios, resources, or IT investments.
Companies raising their Series A round of financing led this week’s venture capital activity. Series A financings represented 54% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest Series A financing was into JDS Pharmaceuticals.
