This reporting period companies based in California operating in the Software industry and that have raised their Series B round of financing led the pack in the amount of venture financing raised. Also, there were three IPOs this reporting period.

CapitalHunter.com was able to verify that $270 million of venture capital was invested in 33 U.S.-based companies during this week’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately $8.18 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period decreased by 25% compared to last periods $360 million.

Geographically,16 California companies raised $176.05 million in venture financings which represents 65% of the total venture capital invested this reporting period. The largest private venture financing in California this period was into AGEIA Technologies. AGEIA Technologies raised $30 million and is a Mountain View based semiconductor company that integrates new technologies of several fields onto a single device such as System On a Chip.
The software sector raised 30% of the venture capital this period. Fourteen software companies raised $81.85 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the software sector this period was into firstRain. firstRain raised $10 million and is a New York, NY based company that is a provider of market intelligence software and services. Offers the only comprehensive, end-to-end hosted application software solution available that gathers, monitors, analyzes and disseminates company, product and market intelligence.
Companies raising their Series B round of financing led this week’s venture capital activity. Series B financings represented 36% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest private venture financing in Series B stage financing this period was into AGEIA Technologies. Nine companies raised $94.95 million in their Series B round.
