This reporting period companies based in New Jersey operating in the Communications industry and that have raised their Later round of financing led the pack in the amount of venture financing raised. Also, there was eight IPOs this reporting period.

CapitalHunter.com was able to verify that $589 million of venture capital was invested in 33 U.S.-based companies during this week’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately $20.31 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period increased by 147% compared to last periods $238 million.

Geographically,5 New Jersey companies raised $262.5 million in venture financings which represents 44% of the total venture capital invested this reporting period. The largest private venture financing in New Jersey this period was into Vonage Corporation. Vonage Corporation raised $200 million and is a Edison based communications company and is provider of high-speed Internet-based digital telephone services.
The Communications sector raised 34% of the venture capital this period. one communication company raised $200 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the Communcations sector this period was into Vonage.
Companies raising their Later round of financing led this week’s venture capital activity. Later financings represented 41% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest private venture financing in Later stage financing this period was into Vonage.
