The largest private venture financing in California this period was into Good Technology. Good Technology raised $65 million and is a Santa Clara provider of wireless enterprise e-mail and data systems that includes software, services, and handhelds for mobile workers. |

The software sector raised 27% of the venture capital this period. Eight software companies raised $115.1 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the software sector this period was into Good Technology. |

Companies raising their Series B round of financing led this week’s venture capital activity. Series B financings represented 38% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest private venture financing in Series B stage financing this period was into Phenomix Corporation, a San Diego based drug discovery and development company with a portfolio of therapeutic programs underway in immune disease and metabolic syndrome. Eleven companies raised $161.6 million in their Series B round.
