This reporting period companies based in California operating in the software industry and that have raised their Series B round of financing led the pack in the amount of venture financing raised. Also, there was eight IPOs this reporting period.

CapitalHunter.com was able to verify that $378 million of venture capital was invested in 43 U.S.-based companies during this week’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately 9.00 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period increased by 21% compared to last periods $313 million.

Geographically, 14 California companies raised $193 million in venture financings which represents 51% of the total venture capital invested this reporting period. The largest private venture financing in California this period was into Level 5 Networks . Level 5 Networks raised $30 million and is a Sunnyvale, California based provider of integrated solutions that allow Ethernet Networks to be used as future-proof high-performance server interconnects.
The software sector raised 22% of the venture capital this period. Eleven software companies raised $79.4 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the software sector this period was into Hellosoft. Hellosoft raised 16 million and is a San Jose, California based provider of software solutions for the VoIP, Wi-Fi, cellular and converged markets.
Companies raising their Series B round of financing led this week’s venture capital activity. Series B financings represented 38% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest private venture financing in Series B stage financing this period was into Level 5 Networks .
