This reporting period companies based in California operating in the biotechnology industry and that have raised their Series A round of financing led the pack in the amount of venture financing raised. Also, there was two IPOs this reporting period. Here are the two IPOs that listed on American stock exchanges this period:

Enterprise GP Holdings priced at $352.8 million on the New York Stock Exchange and is a Houston, Texas based energy company providing processing, storage and transportation services to producers and consumers of natural gas, natural gas liquids and crude oil.

Ready Mix priced at $17.1 million on the American Stock Exchange and is an Las Vegas, Nevada based provider of ready-mix concrete products to the construction industry.

CapitalHunter.com was able to verify that $306 million of venture capital was invested in 26 U.S.-based companies during this week’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately 11.77 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period increased by 4% compared to last periods $294 million.

Geographically, nine California companies raised $121.48 million in new equity financing which represents 40% of the total venture capital invested this reporting period. The largest private venture financing in California this period was into Cerexa. Cerexa raised $50 million and is a Alameda, California based pharmaceutical company providing next-generation antibiotics and anti-infective therapies for life-threatening infections.

The biotechnology sector raised 35% of the venture capital this period. Four biotechnology companies raised $107.4 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the biotechnology sector this period was into Cerexa.

Companies raising their Series A round of financing led this week’s venture capital activity. Series A financings represented 38% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest private venture financing in Series A stage financing this period was also into Cerexa.
