The biotechnology sector raised 31% of the venture capital this period. Five biotechnology companies raised $133.9 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the biotechnology sector this period was into Replidyne. Replidyne is a Louisville, Colorado based biopharmaceutical company currently developing next-generation antibacterial products. |

Companies raising later stage financing rounds led this week’s venture capital activity. These financings represented 53% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest late stage private venture financing was placed into the aforementioned Redwood software company Visto.
