Companies based in California operating in the software industry and that have raised their Series B financing round led the pack in the amount of venture financing raised this week. There were once again no initial public offerings this week.

CapitalHunter.com was able to verify that $342 million of venture capital was invested in 38 U.S.-based companies during this week’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately 9.00 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period decreased by 21% compared to last periods $431 million.

Geographically, eleven California companies raised $93.32 million in new equity financing which was 29% of the total venture capital invested this reporting period. The largest private venture financing in California this period was invested into Freeborders. Freeborders raised $20 million and is a San Francisco based provider of technology solutions and outsourcing from China.
The software sector raised 34% of the venture capital this period. Sixteen software companies raised $112.8 million in venture financing. The largest private venture financing in the software sector this period went into Verid Software. Verid is a Ft. Lauderdale based provider of real-time identity verification and authentication solutions for companies in the financial services, telecommunications, retail, online-services and payment-processing sectors.
Companies raising theirSeries B financing round led this week’s venture capital activity. These financings represented 39% of the total venture capital deployed this period. The largest Series B private venture financing was placed into GlobeImmune. GlobeImmune is an Aurora, Colorado based pharmaceutical company developing immunotherapies for cancer and infectious diseases.
